VENTURA, CA<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 A study session is scheduled before the Ventura County Board of Su\u00adpervisors on December 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. to request that the Board of Supervisors consider the\u00a0Study of Additional Potential Disadvantaged Community Designations<\/i>\u00a0in un\u00adincorporated areas of Ventura County and select the option to designate disadvantaged communities as amended by the recommendation of the Planning Commission to include the Limoneira farmworker housing on Cummings Road, and to include homes in the Ortonville neighborhood.\u00a0The study session will be held in the Board Hearing Room in the Hall of Admin\u00adistration, County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura, California.\u00a0Spanish interpretation is available for this meeting. The\u00a0Study of Additional Potential Disadvantaged Community Designations<\/i>, conducted by the Ventura County Planning Division, presents research on whether any additional unincorporated areas near the cities of Ventura, Santa Paula, and Oxnard, referred to as Study Areas, should be designated as disadvantaged communities. The Study findings include three options for designating disadvantaged communities within the Study Areas.<\/p>\n

The Study was previously presented to the Planning Commission on October 5, 2023. The Planning Commission voted 3-1, with one Commissioner absent, to recommend that the Board of Supervisors select Option 3, with a modifi\u00adcation to include the Limoneira farmworker housing on Cummings Road to desig\u00adnate additional disadvantaged communities, and to further consider the Planning Division\u2019s suggestion for buffer areas to be evaluated as a potential tool to implement General Plan goals, programs, and policies applicable to designated disadvantaged communities. The Planning Division is also recommending the inclusion of homes in the Ortonville neighborhood along North Ventura Avenue in the Ventura Study Area as part of Option 3.<\/p>\n

If the Board of Supervisors designates any additional disadvantaged communities, a General Plan amendment to update the General Plan and the General Plan\u2019s Background Report to reflect such designation(s) will be presented at a future hearing.
