VENTURA, Calif. \u2013 The County of Ventura, General Services Agency (GSA), Fleet Services Department proudly announces it has been ranked as a Top Green Fleet in the 2023 Green Fleet Awards competition by NAFA Fleet Management Association (NAFA), the vehicle fleet industry\u2019s largest membership association. The County of Ventura was awarded 10th place in the NAFA 2023 Green Fleet Awards. This is Fleet Service\u2019s highest all-time ranking for this award, following 3 consecutive years placing in the Top 50 Green Fleets, representing years of achievement in green initiatives.<\/p>

\u201cThis national ranking from NAFA demonstrates the County of Ventura\u2019s ongoing commitment to sustainability and investment in clean energy,\u201d stated Matt LaVere, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. \u201cThe ingenuity and dedication of County staff to pursue future-focused projects is reflected in the year-over-year recognition of their hard work and this year\u2019s ascension into the top 10 ranking. This is an outstanding achievement for the General Services Agency and the County of Ventura overall.\u201d<\/p>

The NAFA Green Fleet Awards are open to over 2,000 fleets from both private and public sectors. This contest acknowledges leaders in sustainability and recognizes peak-performing fleets with enhanced practices and innovative green initiatives to make a positive impact on the environment. The honorees are rated based on a variety of metrics including written submissions with 50 organizations ultimately being recognized. This is an outstanding achievement for the County Fleet management team to outrank numerous local as well as national applicants from all across the country including state, federal, airport, and university fleet entities.<\/p>

\u201cI cannot express how proud I am of my team for being able to achieve this award,\u201d said Chris Melton, GSA Deputy Director of Fleet Services. \u201cTransitioning to clean transportation while also minimizing taxpayer expense is a difficult feat. Fleet Services has put in a significant amount of work in greening the Ventura County fleet, and we have only just gotten started.\u201d<\/p>

Fleet Services showcased the County of Ventura\u2019s commitment to sustainability through fuel and vehicle data along with providing written responses to 24 different questions highlighting key aspects of their green fleet management. Notably, Fleet Services achieved 332 tons of greenhouse gases (GHG) savings annually through these environmental efforts. This was completed by nearly tripling the plug-in electric vehicle count by the end of 2023 compared to 2022, and the launch of seven electric vehicle infrastructure projects within three years. This is in accompaniment to green efforts by the County of Ventura which include requiring the most fuel-efficient vehicle possible to serve each County agency\u2019s mission. In addition to these efforts, the General Services Agency has been a leader in the County in environmental initiatives by installing solar projects to offset electricity costs at County facilities along with multiple other energy conscious County facility improvements and sustainability projects.<\/p>
