The easy mile-long walk hosted by Supervisor Linda Parks and the Ventura County Watershed Protection District will feature information on flood control and local flora and fauna of the arroyo. The tour is along the unpaved maintenance roads on either side of the South Branch Arroyo Conejo that are usually locked off from public access. Plans have been drawn up for a future pedestrian and bicycle path, which has increased interest in access to this area.<\/p><p>Residents will hear from Ventura County Watershed Protection District\u2019s consultant biologist Zack Abbey of Padre Associates, and Chair of the Environmental Science and Resource Management Program at California State University Channel Islands Professor Sean Anderson. The community can also see the recently completed upgrades to Newbury Park Drain No. 1. The brief presentations will be followed by questions and answers, and then the walk.<\/p><p>Supervisor Parks states, \u201cThis channel is a public asset not only for its ability to control flooding, but also for its habitat that supports aquatic life. It\u2019s maintenance roads also conveniently link parts of Newbury Park that would benefit the community if it were to become a public trail in the future.\u201d<\/p><p>The stroller-friendly walk is open to all, including students before school and early-rising senior citizens. The public is invited to put on your walking shoes and meet at the Arroyo Conejo entrance on Wendy Drive just south of Gerald Drive.
