This week, the Ventura County Assessor mailed Homeowners\u2019 Exemption Claim Forms to over 52,000 homeowners that likely qualify for this property tax break.<\/p>\n<p>The Assessor typically mails a Homeowners\u2019 Exemption Claim to new owners. However, in the busy paperwork shuffle of buying a new home, many property owners miss out on this valuable opportunity. In an effort to maximize property tax savings, the Assessor periodically reaches out to potentially eligible homeowners.<\/p>\n<p>The California Constitution provides for the exemption of $7,000 in assessed value from the property tax assessment of any property owned and occupied as the owner\u2019s principal place of residence. The exemption reduces the annual property tax bill for a qualified homeowner by up to $70.<\/p>\n<p>In order to receive the full benefit of the exemption, eligible property owners must file their claim form by February 15. Qualified Claim forms filed after February 15, 2022 but on or before December 10, 2022 will receive a $5,600 exemption for 2022. Once qualified, the exemption continues until the homeowner transfers the property or no longer occupies the property as their primary residence.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more information or to see if you qualify, please contact the Assessor\u2019s Office at (805) 654-2181 or by email at <a href=\"mailto:assessor.info@ventura.org\">assessor.info@ventura.org<\/a>.
