VENTURA, Calif. – On Tuesday, April 14, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to name the new Crisis Stabilization Unit in Simi Valley in honor of Former Fourth District Supervisor Bob Huber. The facility will officially be known as the “Bob Huber Crisis Stabilization Unit,” recognizing Huber’s pivotal role in securing the funding that made the project possible. The vote was brought forward by current Fourth District Supervisor Janice Parvin with the unanimous support of her fellow Board members.
The six-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit, expected to open in 2027, is being developed through the renovation of the existing Ventura County Substance Use Treatment Services facility in Simi Valley. Funding for the project was secured through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), from which Ventura County received $164.3 million for local recovery efforts. Bob Huber successfully advocated for a portion of those funds to be directed specifically toward expanding behavioral health services in East Ventura County, making this facility a direct result of his dedicated leadership.
“Bob Huber’s commitment to this community spans more than fifty years, and this facility is a lasting reflection of that dedication,” said Supervisor Parvin. “Throughout his career – as an attorney, mayor, and County Supervisor – he consistently worked to strengthen the quality of life for residents across East Ventura County. He recognized the urgent need for expanded mental health services and was instrumental in securing the resources to make this Crisis Stabilization Unit a reality. It is only fitting that this facility bear his name as a tribute to his leadership and enduring service.”
Huber served as the Fourth District Supervisor on the Ventura County Board of Supervisors beginning in 2018, following four terms as Mayor of Simi Valley and service on the Simi Valley City Council. Additionally, his investment in the local community extended beyond elected office, having served as President of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary Club of Simi Valley, and as a board member of numerous local nonprofits.
“Retired Supervisor Bob Huber understood that strong communities are built by caring for those most in need,” said Chair of the Board Jeff Gorell. “A consummate public servant at both the City and County level, he served Ventura County for decades with compassion and integrity. His tenure on the Board of Supervisors was defined by his passionate efforts to bring vital services to the region, including expanding access to mental health care and family justice resources. His leadership helped secure the support needed to make this Crisis Stabilization Unit possible. Naming this unit in his honor reflects both his vision and his lasting impact – a legacy that will continue to serve our community in the most meaningful way, by providing care and support when it is needed most.”
The Bob Huber Crisis Stabilization Unit will expand access to urgent mental health care for residents throughout Simi Valley and surrounding communities in eastern Ventura County. The facility will provide short-term stabilization services for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, offering a critical alternative to emergency room visits or incarceration. The naming of the unit in Huber’s honor reflects the Board’s recognition of his lasting contributions to the well-being of Ventura County residents.
