VENTURA, Calif. – Thomas Hunt has been selected as the new director of the County of Ventura’s General Services Agency. The appointment follows a rigorous recruitment that included more than 60 applicants. Hunt succeeds Dave Sasek who retired from the position in July.

“Thomas brings decades of hands-on experience and strategic leadership in facilities and engineering, which makes him uniquely qualified for this role,” stated Dr. Sevet Johnson, County Executive Officer. “His deep understanding of both operational needs and long-term planning will strengthen our ability to maintain and improve critical County infrastructure. Ventura County will benefit greatly from his expertise as we continue to deliver reliable, high-quality services to our residents.”

Hunt has served as Chief Deputy Director for Facilities and Materials within the County’s General Services Agency since May 2025. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, specializing in facilities and engineering services. His background spans the full spectrum of facilities management – including preventive and corrective maintenance, business support services, and housing operations. He has also held leadership roles in facilities and engineering at institutions of higher education, as well as with the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy.

Beyond his professional experience, Hunt is a veteran who served his country in the United States Army and Navy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Florida. He is also a registered Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, and Certified Educational Facilities Professional.

“I am honored to step into the role of GSA Director and continue serving the County of Ventura,” shared Hunt. “It’s a privilege to lead the General Services Agency at such an important time. My focus will be on strengthening our strategic planning, streamlining our operations, fostering more innovation and collaboration, and ensuring that our services – from facilities and fleet to procurement and parks – deliver the highest value for the County and the residents we serve.”

The General Services Agency delivers essential internal services that keep County operations running efficiently and effectively. GSA oversees facilities management, fleet services, procurement, parks maintenance, and other critical functions that support departments in serving the community. Through strategic resource management and a commitment to excellence, the agency ensures County assets are well maintained, cost-effective, and aligned with the needs of residents.

Hunt assumes his role effective immediately at an annual salary of $217,529.85.
