SOMIS, Calif. – AMCAL Multi-Housing, Inc. in partnership with the County of Ventura will be performing off-site roadway improvements to the recently completed Somis Ranch Apartments to enhance safety for future residents, as well as the general public. The improvements, which will take place along State Route 34 (SR-34) will include two new bus stops, new right and left-turn lanes, and a new traffic signal at the entrance of the housing development. Additionally, minor roadway widening, drainage upgrades, updated signage and striping, and the addition of a bike lane will occur.

These improvements will make it safer and easier for current and future Somis Ranch residents and the public to access the housing development and travel along SR-34. The project is being designed in coordination with Caltrans and will be constructed and funded entirely by AMCAL, ensuring no construction costs to taxpayers. Once complete, the upgrades will enhance traffic flow, improve transit access, and support safe, reliable transportation for the entire Somis community.

Construction of these improvements is expected to have minimal impact on nearby residents and motorists. To reduce traffic delays, most work will take place overnight. Crews will primarily operate outside of the main travel lanes along SR-34, working behind temporary K-rail barriers to maintain traffic flow and provide a safe separation between construction activities and vehicles. Construction is anticipated to begin in April 2026 and is anticipated to be completed by April 2027.

The Somis Ranch Apartments are a 18-acre community encompassing 360 units of affordable housing dedicated entirely to Ventura County’s agricultural workforce. The community, located in unincorporated Ventura County, is intended to provide quality, stable housing in support of individuals and families employed in agriculture.
