📢The County of Ventura adopts new ordinance to combat catalytic converter thefts

In a unanimous decision aimed at enhancing public safety and curbing property crime, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors on adopted a new ordinance earlier this week, regulating the possession of catalytic converters in the County’s unincorporated areas.

This proactive measure follows the Board’s directive for County Counsel to work with the Ventura County Sheriff`s Office to develop a local solution in response to the nationwide surge in catalytic converter thefts.

👉The new ordinance makes it illegal for individuals who are not licensed recyclers to possess unattached catalytic converters without valid proof of ownership. Violations will be considered a misdemeanor, carrying penalties of up to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.

En una decisión unánime orientada a mejorar la seguridad pública y reducir los delitos contra la propiedad, la Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Ventura aprobó el martes una nueva ordenanza que regula la posesión de convertidores catalíticos en las zonas no incorporadas del condado. Esta medida proactiva responde a la instrucción de la Junta de Supervisores para que el Abogado del Condado trabajara con la Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Ventura en el desarrollo de una solución local ante el aumento nacional de robos de convertidores catalíticos.

La nueva ordenanza establece que será ilegal que personas que no sean recicladores autorizados posean convertidores catalíticos que no estén instalados en un vehículo, a menos que puedan presentar una prueba válida de propiedad. Las infracciones serán consideradas delitos menores, con sanciones que incluyen hasta un año de cárcel, una multa de hasta $1,000, o ambas.

Now through October 1, 2025, eligible homeowners can apply for a grant of up to $3,000 to strengthen their homes against earthquakes.

🔹 Grants help secure pre-1980 homes to their raised foundations, making them more resistant to ground shaking and soil failure.
🔹 New this year: Landlords and owners of non-primary residences may also apply.
🔹 Retrofitting must be completed by a trained, California-licensed general contractor in eligible ZIP codes.
